Program will be offered in-person on select Wednesdays & Thursdays, beginning in September 2025 and concluding in December 2025. All sessions will start at 8:00 a.m. and finish at 4:00 p.m.
About the Program:
Supervisory skill – or the lack of it – directly affects every company's bottom line. Money is made in the field, and STP can help you improve not only your bottom line, but the entire construction process.
In this six-session course, you will gain the knowledge and skills that every supervisor must have. We'll show you how to be an effective manager of people, time, equipment, and materials, successfully supervising projects of all scopes and sizes.
Session Descriptions:
Unit 1: Leadership and Motivation | September 10
In this session, you will learn about the value of effective supervision while improving your ability to lead and motivate others.
Unit 2: Communication | September 11
In this session, you will gain knowledge of skills that you will need in today's construction environment in order to be an effective communicator on your job site.
Unit 3: Planning and Scheduling | October 1 & 2
In this session, you will learn ways in which planning and scheduling saves your team both time and money, while increasing quality in the construction process and the overall finished product.
Unit 4: Contract Documents | October 22 & 23
In this session, you will learn about contract documents and construction law, helping you understand and recognize the roles and responsibilities of all contracted parties. You will also develop an understanding of how contract documents can be helpful in solving problems and resolving conflicts, while developing positive relationships between all parties in the construction process.
Unit 5: Improving Productivity and Managing Costs | November 12 & 13
This session will show you how project estimates are compiled, how to compare actual project costs with those estimated and how to control costs to meet the estimate. You will also learn how productivity is measured, how the supervisor plays a major role in increasing jobsite productivity and how a small increase in productivity can have a significant impact on the time and cost of your project.
Unit 6: Risk Management and Problem Solving | December 3 & 4
In this session, you will learn the roles and responsibilities of a construction supervisor in accident prevention and loss control.
